STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS

MRWA statement of accounts 2022/23

The production of the statement of accounts for 2022/23 has been delayed. The reason for the delay is that audit of the accounts for prior periods have not been concluded due to issues identified in respect of supporting working papers and the resources to support the audit. Until the earlier years are concluded it is not possible to finalise the 2022/23 accounts. In response, the Authority has engaged the services of a major accounting firm to support the audit of earlier years. In discussion with the external auditor, it was agreed that the production of the draft statement of accounts for 2022/23 would be suspended whilst the earlier years’ audits continued to be the focus. The effect of this delay is that the production of the statement of accounts for 2022/23 will not meet the deadline for the backstop, in respect of the need to provide time for public inspection before the auditor is able to include them in their backstop arrangements. The authority will continue to work to finalise a draft statement as soon as possible, and in any event to enable the auditor to include the next year’s statement (2023/24) in their backstop arrangements for that year as well.
